Le Origini – Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2017
A wine that represents the Bolla family’s passion for Valpolicella Classico and the unique character of the area. "Le Origini" is not just a name; it is a tribute to the winery's historic role in the creation and dissemination of Amarone, which began with the 1950 vintage. This wine is crafted from the finest grapes from our best vineyard and testifies to passion, precision, and the pursuit of perfection.
Vintage 2017 – Climate and growth
2017 was characterized by warm weather and low rainfall. Budbreak started at the end of March, and flowering occurred slightly earlier than normal. The summer was warm and at times very dry. Ripening did not begin until August, and the first autumn rains in September brought both coolness and much needed water to the vines. Significant temperature fluctuations between day and night strengthened the grapes' color and character. The result: grapes with extraordinary color and aromatic depth.
Grapes and origin
Grape varieties: 80% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella
Origin: Marano della Valpolicella
Altitude and exposure: 250–300 meters above sea level, southwest facing
Soil: Calcareous and volcanic soil with great depth
Training system: Traditional Verona pergola
Vine age: Around 50 years
Harvest and drying
The Corvina grapes were early ripening and ready for drying by mid September, with high sugar content and dense structure. Harvesting was done manually, and only the best, loosely packed bunches with thick skins were selected. Natural aromas were enhanced through a gentle drying process until the beginning of January, when the grapes were pressed.
Vinification
Thanks to perfectly ripened grape stems with sweet tannins, the grapes were only partially destemmed. Approx. 30% of the grapes remained whole during fermentation, which was followed by a short post fermentation maceration and malolactic fermentation in oak barrels.
Aging
The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in 500 liter wooden barrels and then aged for 14 months in these barrels. Subsequently, it was matured in 40 hl and 70 hl barrels for 36 months. Finally, the wine spent 12 months in cement tanks and another 12 months in the bottle.
Tasting profile
Deep ruby red color. Intense and complex aromas of red berries and flowers. Full bodied and generous mouthfeel with notes of plum, cherry jam, spices, and balsamic undertones. Long, elegant, and lingering finish.
Alcohol: 16%
Aging potential
Can be stored for up to 20 years under dark, cool, and humidity controlled conditions.
Food and wine
Perfect for game, especially poultry, braised meat dishes, and traditional meat dishes. Also excellent with baked pasta or pasta with duck ragù. For grill enthusiasts, it is a find: match it with spare ribs, Black Angus T bone, or a classic grilled steak.
Allergens: Contains sulphites.
