In the heel of Italy lies the region of Manduria also known as Apulia. Not a region previously known for making distinctly good wine, but fine when you were there - and definitely not for drinking when you got home.
It was then - some enterprising winegrowers took the (dung) count in this other hand and started with the land and new vines. At the same time, the production apparatus was upgraded and finally the marketing.
Today, Manduria is one of the most innovative wine regions in Italy, making some excellent reds from the Primitivo grape and some equally excellent whites from the Fiano grape.
