"Piedmont" means 'at the foot of the mountains', and with its beautiful location at the foot of the Alps, it must be said to be a good fit. In addition to wine, the region is also known for its truffles and nuts. The capital city is Turin.

Piedmont is Italy's seventh largest wine producing region (surprising ????) but what the region lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality.

The two most famous grapes in the area are Barbera and Nebbiolo. The Barbera grape is used primarily to make Barbera d'Alba and Barbera d'Asti. The Nebbiolo grape is used for the two great wines Barbaresco and Barolo, but also for a younger brother, Nebbiolo d'Alba.
