Rhône

Within the last 20 years, a lot has happened to the wines from the Rhône district. A wide range of wines are now made, which are warm and flattering. There are big climate differences from the northern Rhône valley with relatively a lot of rain, fewer hours of sunshine and cool days, and to the southern Rhône with little rain, a lot of sun, and hot days in the summer. In the northern Rhône valley, Syrah is dominant as a red wine grape, while Grenache dominates in the south. The best known areas in the south are Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape or in the north Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph or Cornas.
