McLaren Vale is located 45 minutes south of Adelaide, which is the capital of South Australia.
Wine has been produced in the area since the 1830s, with the main emphasis on Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache. Today, 54% of the vineyards are planted with Shiraz.
But the area also experiments with "Mediterranean grapes" such as Nero d'Avola, Tempranillo, Barbera and Montepulciano, just as Pinot Noir is also often used.
