Located as the northernmost wine area in the Medoc region.
The area with the "most powerful" wine within the Medoc, especially in the young years of the wine, some describe them as rustic or even lumpy.
Especially in the young years, the wine can seem unapproachable, even almost undrinkable, which is why the storage potential for Saint-Estèphe is enormous. Even after many years of storage, the wines seem surprisingly fresh.
Saint Estéphe has no wines classified as 1st Cru but has some in the other classes.
