1999 Château Pétrus – Pomerol
1999 Château Pétrus is one of the world’s most sought-after and legendary wines. This iconic Pomerol unites depth, elegance, and exceptional complexity with notes of ripe plums, black cherries, truffle, violets, cedarwood, and dark chocolate. After more than two decades of maturation, the wine presents a silky-smooth texture, great finesse, and a remarkable length that only the greatest Bordeaux wines can deliver.
About the product
Château Pétrus is without doubt the most famous estate in Pomerol and is considered among the absolute greatest wines in the world. The estate is owned by the Moueix family and produces only a limited quantity of wine each year. The vineyards are situated on Pomerol's famous blue clay soil, which provides optimal growing conditions for Merlot and creates wines with a completely unique concentration, minerality, and elegance.
The 1999 vintage is almost entirely produced from Merlot with a very small addition of Cabernet Franc. The grapes are hand-harvested from old vines with low yields and vinified with great precision before the wine is aged in new French oak barrels. After many years of bottle aging, the wine has developed an impressive complexity, where ripe fruit, tertiary aromas, and silky-fine tannins melt together in perfect harmony.
About the region
Pomerol is one of the world's most exclusive wine regions and is famous for its Merlot-dominated wines with a velvet-soft structure, great depth, and exceptional aging potential. The region's rare blue clay soil is one of the main reasons for the unique character of Pétrus, giving the wines a distinct minerality as well as complex aromas of dark fruit, violets, and truffle. Although Pomerol does not have an official classification system, Château Pétrus is considered the region's undisputed icon.
