From the Dictador distillery, located in the city of Cartagena de Indias on the Caribbean coast of Colombia, comes “Insolent XO rum”.
The casks are re-charred (to caramelize the sugar from the previous contents) before being filled with rum. The final product has clear characteristics from the maturation period in these casks, primarily in the form of a deep, rich sweetness from the port wine casks, and a wealth of dried fruits from the sherry casks.
The aroma releases lovely notes of pure vanilla, toasted honey, caramel, and mature oak.
The color is dark mahogany, but with an elegant golden hue. The taste is incredibly smooth and welcoming, yet extremely complex, with vanilla, Colombian coffee, caramel, and a finely balanced reference to the oak.
The aftertaste lingers and lingers, and there is no doubt that this is a very special rum. Fantastic!
