Lange-Müller or Shu-bi-dua, Bloksbjerg or Hekkenfeldt, white wine or rosé?
Big questions at this time, when we are preparing to celebrate the birth of John the Baptist, or rather Saint Hans. John the Baptist's birth is set for June 24 - Saint Hans' day - exactly half a year after the birth of Jesus, and just as Christmas Eve is celebrated the day before Christmas Day, we also celebrate Saint Hans's eve the day before.
The big question, however, is – when we have sung Drachmann's old text to either Lange-Müller's original melody or Shu-bi-dua's newer one and sent the witch to either Bloksbjerg or Hekkenfeldt – whether we should drink white wine or rosé this evening. Or whether you should just stick to red wine.
We may have answered the last question and have selected a few bottles within each category, which can be drunk with great advantage both before the meal, with the meal and afterwards brought to the fire.
These excellent wines also go well with cupids in the air . In the days of St. Hans, especially young women picked flowers from fields and meadows to hide under the pillow, as this was supposed to bring sweet dreams about the person they wanted to marry.
