Willem by Willem is Laphroaig's first limited edition created together with the internationally acclaimed actor Willem Dafoe. But rather than simply putting his name on the bottle, Dafoe was involved in the selection of the whisky itself alongside Senior Whisky Blender Sarah Dowling.
The starting point for the project was the cinematic expression “no notes” – when a performance works so well that the director has no corrections. Similarly, the whisky was selected without traditional official tasting notes. The idea is that the individual whisky lover should experience and interpret the flavor themselves rather than being told in advance exactly what to find in the glass.
The whisky has matured for 14 years and has subsequently been finished in Oloroso sherry casks. The sherry finish adds depth and a darker, sweeter dimension to Laphroaig’s characteristic peat smoke, maritime minerality, and powerful Islay character.
With an alcohol strength of 53.7%, there is plenty of intensity and concentration. The combination of age, high alcohol strength, and Oloroso finish makes this a distinctive Laphroaig, where the familiar smoke is joined by richer fruit, spices, and sweetness.

Laphroaig Distillery was founded in 1815 and is located right by the sea on Islay's south coast. Over more than 200 years, the distillery has built one of the most characteristic and recognizable profiles in Scotch single malt whisky.
Laphroaig is famous for its distinctive peat smoke and its salty, maritime, and slightly medicinal nuances. The distillery continues to use traditional floor maltings for part of its malt, where the barley is dried over peat smoke and thus acquires the character that can later be found in the finished whisky.
Islay is world-renowned for smoky whisky, and the island's peat, harsh coastal climate, and long whisky tradition have made the area one of Scotland's most famous whisky regions. In the Willem Dafoe Edition, this classic Islay identity is combined with the rich and sweet character from the Oloroso sherry casks.
