Le Petit Lion du Marquis de Las Cases is the second wine from Château Léoville Las Cases, one of Bordeaux's most iconic estates and classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé since 1855. The second wine is produced with the same uncompromising approach to quality as the estate's Grand Vin, but with a higher proportion of Merlot, which makes the wine more charming and accessible in its youth.
The 2021 vintage consists of 57% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 3% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in French oak barrels, approximately 40% of which are new, adding structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit. The result is an elegant Saint-Julien with great precision, freshness, and the distinct signature of Léoville Las Cases.
About the region
Saint-Julien is one of the most prestigious appellations in the Médoc and is known for Bordeaux wines that combine the power of Pauillac with the elegance of Margaux. The well-drained gravel soils provide optimal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, while Merlot adds roundness and body. The result is wines with great balance, complexity, and a remarkable ability to evolve over many years.
