Pol Roger Brut Réserve Champagne
Pol Roger Brut Réserve is the epitome of classic Champagne craftsmanship and one of the most respected non-vintage Champagnes in the world. This iconic cuvée from the family-owned Champagne house Pol Roger unites freshness, complexity, and elegance in a style that, for generations, has made the house a favorite among collectors, sommeliers, and Champagne lovers alike.
One of Champagne's most respected houses
The Champagne house Pol Roger was founded in 1849 in Épernay and has remained family-owned for six generations. The house is known for its uncompromising approach to quality and currently owns 94 hectares of its own vineyards, spread across some of the best terroirs in the Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs.
Pol Roger is also famous for its impressive cellars beneath Épernay. The cellars stretch for nearly 10 kilometers and reach depths of up to 33 meters underground. The stable temperatures provide optimal conditions for the slow maturation that contributes to the house's characteristic finesse, complexity, and silky mousse.
Winston Churchill's favorite Champagne
Pol Roger holds a very special place in Champagne history as Winston Churchill's preferred house. The British Prime Minister had a close relationship with the Pol Roger family and enjoyed the house's Champagnes throughout much of his life.
As a tribute to this historic friendship, the house later created the legendary prestige Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill, which is only produced in the best vintages and in a style that reflects Churchill's penchant for powerful, complex, and age-worthy Champagnes.
The grapes behind Pol Roger Brut Réserve
Pol Roger Brut Réserve is composed of the three classic Champagne grapes in nearly equal parts:
- Pinot Noir – adds structure, depth, and character.
- Chardonnay – contributes elegance, freshness, and finesse.
- Pinot Meunier – provides fruitiness, roundness, and charm.
Each parcel is vinified separately in stainless steel tanks to preserve the grapes' natural freshness and the character of the terroir. Subsequently, the various base wines and reserve wines are blended to create the recognizable Pol Roger style, which delivers impressive consistency year after year.
The Champagne matures for a minimum of four years in the bottle in the house's deep cellars – significantly longer than required by law for non-vintage Champagne. The long aging provides the fine bubbles and complex aromatic profile that characterize the Brut Réserve.
Tasting notes
Appearance: Clear golden color with fine, persistent bubbles.
Nose: Elegant aromas of white flowers, citrus, ripe apples, brioche, and toasted nuts. With a little aeration, the Champagne develops notes of honey, almonds, and freshly baked bread.
Palate: Fresh, harmonious, and refined with notes of citrus fruit, pear, baked apples, and light spices. The creamy mousse and the long, mineral finish create a Champagne with great balance and impressive depth.
